Self-esteem, social support and coping strategies of left-behind children in rural China, and the intermediary role of subjective support:a cross-sectional survey

Abstract Background Negative coping strategies and behavioral problems are common among Chinese left-behind children, which relate to a variety of negative consequences. At this stage development, the relevant factors need be further studied, in social support self-esteem worthy our attention. The aim study is detect current situation self-esteem, support, styles children (LBC) rural China. Methods 322 from 3 schools China enrolled study, including 236 LBC 86 non-left-behind (NLBC) assess strategies. Results group had lower score total (subjective objective support-seeking behavior) than NLBC group. In terms strategies, was problem-solving rationalization. significant positive associated with subjective score, help-seeking score. addition, has mediating effect between problem-solving, help-seeking, respectively. Conclusions finding indicate that LBC’s improved. Given correlativity strategy, it necessary promote especially support.
